May 11, 2010

1. I found this photograph on Flickr.com.

2. The photographer of this photo is der Corse.

3. This photo was uploaded on May 8, 2010.

4. I liked this photograph for many reasons. One reason I like this picture is because the bleeding heart flower is one of my favorite flowers. I also like this photo because of the way that the flowers stand out against the dark background so well. I really like the way the green leaf is off to the side and is the only green in the photograph so it stands out from everything else in the photo. This photo reminds me that a heart can bleed which means that in life you will get hurt and your heart will break but there is a bright side to it as well.

5. In this photograph natural and artificial lighting was used. You can tell the lighting is natural because the plant would most likely need to be outside. You can also tell artificial lighting was used because natural lighting isn't able to make the colors stand out on their own in the way that they do. The lighting in this picture has high contrast. The bright pink flowers and the green leaf stand out against the very dark blue and black background. The lighting in this photo is dramatic. It is dramatic by how the photographer made the flowers stand out and almost jump of the photograph with them against the super dark background.

6. The photographer used different composition skills in this photograph. The photographer did really well at achieving texture in this photo. When you look at the picture you can tell that the flowers are smooth and so is the branch they are hanging from. The photographer also used contrast very well. The flower stands out against the background and the leaf stands out against the pink flowers. The emphasis in this photo is on the flowers. The photographer created this emphasis by making the flowers the brightest things in the picture. The photographer also made emphasis by having the flowers be the largest thing in the photo and making them seem very close up.

7. I think the photographer is trying to communicate that a heart can and will break and that love can hurt. I think this message is being communicated very well. The photographer communicates it by how the picture is of the bleeding heart flower which shows that a heart can be broken and it can bleed if it is not taken care of and sometimes even if it is taken care of it can be hurt.

My Visual Dynamics

Rule of Thirds (2/3 Composition

This photograph is broken down into 2/3 composition. 2/3 of this photo is grass and dirt. The other 1/3 of this photograph is of the side walk. The photo uses the Rule of Thirds.

Rule of Thirds (Points of Power)
This photo is broken down into rule of thirds, points of power. There are multiple points of power in this picture. In the upper left the line falls right on the top of the trees. The middle of the upper line falls right under the roof of the top of the play ground. The left vertical line falls right on the line of one of the posts form the jungle gym. The center of the lower horizontal line cuts right between the little girl who is playing on the jungle gym. The lower horizontal line also traces right across the top of the smaller jungle gym bars.

Spatial Relationships
Spatial Relationship is the relationship between two or more subjects at different depths. In this photograph Jeni's relationship with Zach is that she is stepping on him. Jeni is closer to the camera and Zach is much farther way. Since Zach is far away he looks smaller then Jeni so she is able to lift her leg and make it look like she is about to step on him.

Leading Line

This photograph uses leading line to create emphasis on the side of the dock where it begins to slat upwards. The emphasis is in the center of the photo. The lines are created by the wooden beams and it's shadow. The edges start out wide on the top and bottom of the photograph and meet in the center and the crease.

Framing

This photograph uses framing to frame my mom and her fiance. The frame of this picture are th posts that are around the door way. The posts form a boarder around my mom and Dave framing them inside of the opening of the door.

Value Contrast

Value contrast is when dark things stand out against a light background or light things stand out against a dark background. The dark tree in this photograph stands out against the light background of the sky. Also the grass looks very dark so it also stands out against the light background. The very light sun stands out against the dark tree and the slightly darker sky.

April 2, 2010

1. I found this photo on Flickr.com.

2. The photographer is ற.ற.ɑ.

3. This photo was uploaded on April 29, 2010.

4. There are many things that I like about this photograph. One thing I like is that sunglasses. I like them because aviators are one of my favorite types of glasses. I also like how the hand holding the glasses has bracelets on because it makes the picture more interesting instead of it just being a plain arm. Another reason I like this photograph is because when I look at it, it makes me think about seeing the world through a different set of glasses.

5. Natural lighting was used in this photograph. I can tell it is natural lighting because the person is outside with the sky as the background. I think there is high contrast because the arm and glasses stand out a lot against the light blue and white sky. The lighting in the photo is subtle because there is not giant burst of light anywhere.

6. The photographer used composition skills in many different ways with this photograph. The photographer used rule of thirds, points of power in this photo. The glasses fall of the point of the upper line and far left line. The emphasis in this photograph is on the sunglasses. The photographer created the emphasis with the way that the glasses stand out against the sky behind them. She also created it with how the hand leads to the glasses so the eye is draw to them.

7. I think the photographer was trying to communicate that sometimes we need to see the world through other people's eyes. I also thing she was trying to say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I think the message is this because the glasses are showing a different view for people. Also when we wear glasses our surroundings become darker so it is like seeing the world in a different way. I think the photographer clearly communicated this message because glasses are used for seeing and that leads to seeing the world through other people's eyes and beauty being in the eyes of the beholder.

April 21, 2010

1. I got this photo from Flickr.com.

2. The photographer for this picture is Lightpoacher.

3. This photo was take on April 18, 2009.

4. There are multiple reasons why I like this photo. I really like this photo because the little girl in it is very cute. She looks so happy and it makes me wonder what is making her happy. I also really like the reflection method that was used. It is very creative and give the picture a hole different feel to it. I also like that the picture is in black and white. Because it is in black and white it makes a picture of a little girl look a lot more elegant that if it were in color.

5. Artificial lighting was used in this photograph. I can tell artificial lighting was used because I can tell the photograph was taken in a studio. The photo uses high contrast between the girl and the stripped background. There is also high contrast between the girl and the edges of the photograph. The lighting is both dramatic and subtle. The lighting of the edges are very dramatic but the lighting of the little girl are subtle.

6. The photographer used composition skill in different ways. The photographer used formal balance very nicely. The girls and her reflection divide in the center of the photograph so each view of her is equally on both sides. The emphasis in the photograph is on the little girl and her reflection. This emphasis is created by how the only real objects in the photo are her and her reflection so there is nothing to distract the eye. It is also emphasised by how clear and focused her face and reflection is. The photographer also did very well achieving unity in this photograph because nothing looks out of place, everything fits together.

7. I believe the photographer is trying to communicate that life is simple. It is saying that this little girl is happy about something. Little children can become happy by the simplest things so this photo shows that being happy can be very simple if we look at life through the eyes of a child. I think this message is being communicated very clearly. The little girl is obviously happy about something and everyone knows that it usually is not difficult to make a child happy. Also since the girl is looking right at the camera is give a greater point that we must look through her eyes to see the simple happiness she feels.

This Photograph uses leading line to create emphasis on Zach in the upper center of the photo. The lines are created by the railing he is sitting on. The edges start out wide and then move inward to meet at his butt.

Framing

This photograph uses framing by how the girl is in another photo. The frame in this picture is of the Polaroid. The Polaroid is framing the picture of the girl inside of it.

Value Contrast

Value Contrast is dark things standing out against a light background or light things standing out against a dark background. The woman's hair in the picture stands out against the light faded background. Also her her dark dress stands out against the light background while the light flowers on the dress stand out against the dark dress itself.

Rule of Thirds (Points of Power)

This Photo is broken down into rule of thirds, points of power. There are multiple points of power in this photo but i have marked three. One is at the center of her nose. The center of her nose falls on the lower left line. Also her pupil sits on the center of the upper left where the lines meet. The third spot is the second vertical line lines up with the side of her face.

March 25, 2010

1. I found this picture on Flickr.com.

2. The photographer is Mahkota Alam.

3. I believe this photo was taking in the early morning or late in the evening. It was uploaded on March 21, 2010.

4. I like this photograph because of how inspiring it can be. Many different people can look at it and see completely different meanings. Someone could look at it and see sadness because the girl is alone but others could look at it and see happiness as though she is becoming a new person. I also really like the color contrast. The girl's shirt and pants really stand out against the background. I like the way that the girls is so simply dressed and there is not to much going on that the picture leaves so much room for interpretation.

5. The type of lighting that is used in this photograph is natural lighting. In the photo there is high contrast between the girl herself, the darkness of the outer edges and the sun. The lighting in the picture is dramatic lighting that is coming from behind the girl.

6. The photographer used composition skills in different ways. She used emphasis up near the girls head where the sun is coming from. The emphasis is created by the sun and how the eye is drawn up towards that part of the photograph. She also used good balance with both sides of the composition with the darkness one each side. She did every well achieving unity since everything in the picture looks right together.

7. I think the photographer was trying to communicate multiple things. I think the photographer made this photo so that people could come up with a meaning for it themselves. I think she did well making it possible for people to interpret this photo in different ways because since the sun is to bright you cannot see the girls face or her emotions so one must come up with the emotions on their own. I can see this photo as someone who is sad and lonely and is not happy with themselves. I see this because the girl is by herself and it seems like she is just walking through a park without reason. I also see this photo as someone becoming a new and being independent and not worried about others. I see this because the sun is so bright like how when the sun rises it is very bright and the beginning of a new day. I also think this because it seems like the girl doesn't care how she looks since what she is wearing is so simple.
